More tile coaster designs

Here are the other designs I made for the tile coasters.

I love this little penguin. He was made from a pattern by Kaylas Kreations. I dont know where you can find these patterns anymore...she has taken her site down.

This reindeer is one I saw in an idea book a couple of years ago. I think they used a coaster from a restaurant to make the head...I just paper pieced it.

I dont remember where I found this pattern, but they are cute huh?

Christmas Coasters

I dont know if you remember the tile coasters I made back in March, but I decided to make some Christmas sets. Here is one of the sets I have made (there's more I'll show you later).

I used Basic Grey papers on it. I pieced one and copied them like I did before so it would be quicker and less bulky. I hope the people receiving these will enjoy them.

Amish Friendship Bread Recipe

For your start:

Mix 1 cup milk

1 cup flour and

1 cup sugar in a NON metal bowl or gallon baggie (I personally use the baggie...just squish it all together to mix it).

Leave alone on counter for 2-5 days

Day 6 stir it (if in bowl, or squish it in baggie)

Day 7 add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup milk then mix.

Day 8-9 mix (stir or squish)

Day 10 add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup milk

Today is the day you can take out 1 cup of starter for baking and give 1 cup to a friend. Maintain starter.

These are the directions I give to friends with a start.

Do not use a metal spoon or a metal bowl for mixing. Do NOT refrigerate.

When air forms in bag and it's puffy, let out and reseal. It is normal for batter to raise, bubble, and ferment.

Day 1 This is the day you receive your batter...Do Nothing!

Day 2 Mush the bag

Day 3 Mush the bag

Day 4 Mush the bag

Day 5 Mush the bag

Day 6 Add into the bag 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Mix together by squeezing the bag.

Day 7 Mush the bag

Day 8 Mush the bag

Day 9 Mush the bag

Day 10 Combine in a large bowl:

Batter from the bag, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Stir and pour four 1 cup starters into ziplock bags. Keep one for yourself and give the other three to friends with these instructions.

To the remaining batter, in a non-metal bowl add and mix well:

1 cup oil, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 3 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 cups flour, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1-1/2 tsp baking power, 1 large box vanilla instant pudding ( right from the box, not made)

Preheat oven to 325. Grease and generously sugar (a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon) two large loaf pans, or one large bundt pan (or 4 small loaf pans). Pour batter into pan and sprinkle remaining sugar mixture on top. Bake one hour. Let stand 10 minutes before removing from pan.

Optional: add 1 cup chopped nuts and/or raisins, chocolate chips, coconut, etc.

The fourth bag that you pour will be yours to keep and start the 1o day process over again. You will have bread every 10 days! I have learned a trick...you can freeze the batter for up to 6 weeks, so I have started freezing it and then pulling out a start when I want bread. I just do day 10 on it and it makes 2 extra starts instead of 4. I either give them away or put them back in the freezer until I want more bread. This makes it easier than having to bake bread every 10 days.

My kids love this and request it instead of birthday cake sometimes. The small (mini) loaves are great neighbor gifts for Christmas.

Candy box tutorial

These candy boxes are so fun to make. I have made them for my kids to give as gifts to their friends, and I have made them as party favors. Here's how you make them.

The dashed lines are scored and folded. The size of the paper is on the pattern. The dark circles are holes punched in the cardstock like this.

Then you place glue on the edge and glue closed like this.

I used scrappy glue, but any strong adhesive would work. You could also use tacky tape.

I form the box and then twist the ends like this.

It works really easy if you have scored the fold lines and punched the circles out.

After you have constructed your box, cut4 pieces of patterned paper 1-5/8 x 4 inches and glue to each side of the box. Fill your box with candy or another small gift and tie the ends closed with ribbon. These don't have to be just for Christmas. You can do them for Halloween, Valentine's Day, Birthdays...anything you want!!

Gifts

This week at House of Paper the theme was Gifts and Cards. I chose to do gifts because that is my favorite thing to make.

I found the pattern for this strawberry box and thought it would be a cute thank you gift. I attached a tag that says "Thank you berry much" I enlarged the pattern to 200%. I used Echo Park papers on this one.

For this cute little twist box, I shortened the pattern I found.

I used Bazzill cardstock and some more Echo Park papers.

Back to School

It's back to school week at House of Paper and here is what I came up with for my assignments.
I made these "pencils" out of rolos and a hershey's kiss...cute huh?

This is my kids' first day of school last year. I used Basic Grey Oxford on this layout.

I found instructions to make this cute little backpack and had to try it. I used Echo Park For the Record papers on it.

I had fun with this weeks assignments!

Glimmer Mist

Wow, I haven't posted here for a while. I will share a post with you that I posted on the HOP Blog recently.

I decided to try using Glimmer Mist to create my own background paper. This is my finished result. The Bee and "Bee Happy" are free digi stamps from Paper Smooches.

Heres what I did:

First, I drew a bunch of clouds on a piece of paper and then cut them out. I laid the cut outs on a piece of cardstock like this

Then I took my Glimmer Mist and sprayed it all over the cardstock like this

It only took a minute to dry, and then I took the clouds off.

After, I took the cut outs clouds and placed them slightly off center of the white clouds on the paper and traced them so that my finished result looked like this.

I cut up this paper for my background paper and used it on the card you saw above. Fun huh? Glimmer Mist is available at the House of Paper store.
