Gifts

This week at House of Paper the theme was Gifts and Cards. I chose to do gifts because that is my favorite thing to make.
I found the pattern for this strawberry box and thought it would be a cute thank you gift. I attached a tag that says "Thank you berry much" I enlarged the pattern to 200%. I used Echo Park papers on this one.

For this cute little twist box, I shortened the pattern I found.
I used Bazzill cardstock and some more Echo Park papers.

I dont know if anyone even stops by my blog anymore...but thanks for visiting if you're here :)

Back to School

It's back to school week at House of Paper and here is what I came up with for my assignments.
I made these "pencils" out of rolos and a hershey's kiss...cute huh?

This is my kids' first day of school last year. I used Basic Grey Oxford on this layout.

I found instructions to make this cute little backpack and had to try it. I used Echo Park For the Record papers on it.

I had fun with this weeks assignments!
As always, thanks for stopping by.

Anything Goes

The theme this week for House of Paper is anything goes. I just received this new Echo Park Country Drive paper, so I decided to use it on both of my layouts.
This first layout is about one of my son's best friends. Today would be his 17th birthday. We sure do miss you Devin and think of you often. When Devin passed away it affected a lot of people. Lots of kids were texting to do this or that in honor of Devin. Several kids wore best dress to school to honor him. His closest friends made T-Shirts and wrote their memories with Devin on them. They put his last name and his football number on the back. He was such a good kid and is greatly missed.

This next layout is my youngest son and some of his friends at the World's Fair at his school. I wish I could have made it around to get more pictures, but its so packed in the school on this night. Each 6th grader chooses a country to learn about and they work on it for over 4 months, then they put on this big World's Fair and tell everyone about what they learned. It is a big production and a lot of work.

Valentines Day layout

I made this layout for Roomie Week on the HOP blog. I don't get to use pink very often, so Valentines is a great time. I just love everything that Echo Park puts out, and this is their valentines line called Be Mine.

New Layouts

This week our assignment at House of Paper was to scrap about Rebirth and/or Blessed
Whenever I think of rebirth, I think of Spring or Easter. I chose to scrap some old Easter pics using Echo Park Springtime.

For my blessed layout I chose a recent family pic. I used Echo Park for the record paper.

National Craft Month

March is National Craft Month and this week at House of Paper the DT highlighted different things to do with your craft supplies.
My first project was this cute little owl. It tore a little while I was sewing it, so I crumpled it up to give it a distressed look...I like how it turned out.

I made these tile coasters for one of my projects this month

I learned some things in the process. The first time I made them and poured the resin on them, they looked like this

I figured out that EVERY SINGLE BIT of the paper had to be covered with glue on the backside, or the resin would absorb into it and discolor it. I pieced them again and made sure I put glue everywhere, but I was worried about the outcome again, so I went to my local print store and color copied them (they need to be copied on a laser printer, not ink jet or they may run). They are capable of replicating the image on a page, so you get more than one. I would recommend this way. Put the work into one, then color copy for the tiles...much easier!

In my second try my tiles turned out much better, but still on the owl by the leaves it discolored a little and theres a dot on the flower.
I decided to try a couple of the copies to see if they worked any better and found them a LOT easier. They are less bulky, and there was NO bleeding of the resin and discoloration.
I took modge podge and painted it on the backside of one of the copies with a foam brush and then adhered it to the tile. I let it dry, then covered the top with modge podge. As it becomes tacky you will find that if you touch it with your fingers, the paper will rip...use the foam brush to smooth out air bubbles. Let it dry completely.

The resin isnt as hard as it may seem. You could stop with the modge podge, but I liked the image to be in the resin. I mixed 2 oz from each of the bottles in the kit (this will do 5-6 tiles). I got paper cups to get them off the counter (protect underneath, the resin will drip and is permanent...use cardboard or a board). I use the popsicle stick to wipe the drips off the bottoms of the tile before it dries too much.

I poured it on and smoothed it around with a popsicle stick (same one I mixed with). The directions tell you to use a torch to get air bubbles out...these are small and you can exhale/huff on them...like you are trying to warm up your hands on a cold day. This will take the air bubbles out. I check on them for up to an hour to make sure that all the bubbles are out. After 8 hours they are dry to the touch. Because I have kids that think they should touch...I did this in the evening and then let them dry overnight.
This is the color copy version

Put sticky back felt dots (used for furniture) on the backside and they wont scratch up wherever you use them. My kids think they are fun. You can do photographs too...they could be personalized. Im going to make more for Christmas and make color copies of my image. I use coupons to buy the resin to make it cheaper. The white 4 x 4 tiles are 16 cents a piece. Cute and cheap!

Layout

I have neglected my blog. My kids and their sports have kept me rather busy...along with my church calling. I never seem to have any time.

This first layout is for the Roomie of the Month on the HOP BLOG.

We were assigned to scrap about things we see everyday. I dont actually see this every day, but I see it often. I thought it would be something fun to remember later on.

and this I DO see everyday...I spend a lot of time here.

I have made other things but you can check them out in my HOP GALLERY.

My latest projects

This week our assignment was anything goes. I decided to make a Christmas Planner and a little purse that holds cards.
On this planner, I used Pink Paislee Father Christmas papers. I made the album myself out of Black Bazzill. The papers and ribbon used throughout the book are available at HOP.

I googled for Purse Patterns and found one at Split Coast Stampers. I modified it a bit to make it a different size, but same basic instructions. I would share a link, but I cant seem to find it again.
I used Bella Blvd. Socialite papers for this one.

This is the inside of the purse holding 3x3 cards.

and here it is empty.

Ive been posting Christmas ideas with how to's over on the HOP blog this week...be sure to stop by there as well. (There is a link on the right side at the top under the HOP blinkie).

Halloween

This week our assignment was to make Halloween/Fall stuff.
This layout is of my family on Halloween last year. I used Echo Park Happy Halloween papers.

I found the pattern for this box at the Martha Stewart site and thought it would make cute halloween gifts. I used Happy Halloween on this too :)
If you decide to make them, I learned through trial and error that a spray adhesive is the best option for gluing the paper and cardstock together. The other ways left bubbles inside my box, but the spray adhesive left it smooth.

Its all about the paper

This week the Design Team was asked to make layouts using paper and cardstock only. This is how I usually scrap for the most part anyway, so it was right up my alley.
For this first layout I used the brand new Echo Park Merry Christmas paper. I seem to love everything that Echo Park puts out and their 2 new christmas lines are no exception. I made the flower out of the paper and cut the lettering out of cardstock on my cricut.

For this layout I thought the colors of the Bella Blvd. Hello Sunshine papers were perfect!

As always, thanks for stopping by!!

Layouts

Here are the layouts I made for this weeks upload at House of Paper.
For this first layout I used Lily Bee Lovely papers. I made the rose out of the paper. The bling is Zva, the hearts are Heidi Swapp. This is my oldest son when he was 3.5 years old. He was the ring bearer for his cousins wedding. I may still add journaling to this layout.

I used Echo Park Happy Halloween papers on this layout. This is my oldest son at a halloween party last year.
